Equity Learning Space

Experience alternative learning opportunities rooted in anti-oppression, equity and inclusion. Learn curriculum that is relevant to our community’s needs, including content about Black history, stolen legacies, and white supremacy, from Black educators, in a safe, collaborative progressive environment. We are also partnering with other community collectives to deepen our understanding of Indigenous knowledge. Learn from Indigenous Wisdom Carriers about Indigenous history, the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action, and issues surrounding land acknowledgement. By providing engaging educational opportunities that are relevant to our communities, Halton Black Voices aims to encourage more interest in higher education for Black and Indigenous citizens. We will also support initiatives for Black and Indigenous cultural creation in our local communities, with the goal of building beautiful spaces where BIPOC can thrive.

HCDSB Math Tutoring 2024

HBV Tutoring & Literacy Support Programs is intended to address barriers in the classroom and at school among Black and students of colour. We acknowledge and support that diversity, equity, and justice are more important now than ever—and that our learning can never start too early. By creating learning spaces that center the voices and stories of the global majority, we are implicitly teaching the values of equity, inclusion and diversity and demonstrating their importance in both name and practices.
Math tutoring support is now available for all HCDSB students in grade 7-12 that attend Halton Catholic District School Board.
This FREE program is only offered to HCDSB students.

Summer + March Break Programs

HBV Anti Racism Literacy Program is intended to address barriers in the classroom and at school among Black and students of colour. We acknowledge and support that diversity, equity, and justice are more important now than ever—and that our learning can never start too early. But how do you approach an anti-racist education? Our literacy program is centered on the believes that one way is through age-appropriate Black literature and storytelling. Students interact with books and create meaning in a way that educate, inform and affirm student identity. By creating lessons that center the voices and stories of the global majority, we are implicitly teaching the values of equity, inclusion and diversity and demonstrating their importance in both name and practices. Through purposefully curated books that center and amplify Black students and the multiculturalism that makes up Canadian identity students are better equipped to understand the critical importance of creating and sustaining an atmosphere of kindness, compassion and empathy all inherent pieces that will work to foster anti-racist education.

Black Youth Wellness Camp This program empowers students to challenge negative societal stereotypes and recognize their inherent strength. Through learning the power of positive self-talk and self-compassion, participants will not only foster a better understanding of themselves but also develop compassion towards others, enhancing their interpersonal relationships and personal growth. The camp also introduces mindfulness meditation, teaching participants its benefits and practical methods to incorporate it into their daily lives. Over three days, the Mental Health Self Series workshops will further develop their communication skills and understanding of cognitive distortions, aiding them in making thoughtful decisions.
