Intentions
Halton Black Voices is a new collective, intended to bring youth, families and individuals together. Our purpose is to create a safe space in the Halton region for all Black people including the 2SLGBTQQIA community, where we can establish new connections. We aim to build stronger communities by raising awareness, educating, and empowering Black community members of all ages. We also intend to connect with allies for reciprocal educational opportunities, with the intention of creating spaces of mutual understanding and respect.
Our struggle for equity is bound together with the struggles of Indigenous communities of the land where many of our ancestors were transported and enslaved. Indigenous liberation is a prerequisite for Black liberation, so the work of Halton Black Voices will be closely tied to our Indigenous community members in Halton.

Testimonials
“ I believe this space that's been created and helps Black kids is great. An amazing organization that I would have loved my daughter to be on. From hearing her brother's sessions she often asks "When is my tutoring?" This is a testament that clearly demonstrates the strong appeal of your program to kids! "
-Equity Learning Space, Tutoring Program 2023 - Parent Feedback
“The space provided a sense of belonging and togetherness where we felt safe and empowered to discuss the struggles as well as success we have had dealing with systematic racism, anti Blackness as well as white supremacy within our individual lives.”

Land Acknowledgement
Halton Region is located within the traditional territories of the Anishnaabek, Haudenosaunee, Attawandarin, and the Métis. It is home to many other Indigenous nations from across the lands, including the enduring presence of Afro-Indigenous Peoples. We live on stolen land. We acknowledge the genocide and racism that has plagued Turtle Island for hundreds of years. We recognized and honour the real history and beauty of Mother Earth and its Indigenous Peoples. We fully support returning the land back to its First Peoples to restore balance and harmony, because what has been done with it is disgraceful and unsustainable. Our deepest thanks to the Mississaugas of the Credit for being caretakers of this territory.
